Death is a reality we’re all destined to face. No matter our religion or beliefs, financial position, relationship status or race, death comes to us all.

Where, when and how though is a mystery, and sometimes we are blindsided by the untimely death of people in our lives. They can be loved ones we hold dear in our hearts, or cultural icons of our generation such as Kobe Bryant, Mac Miller or Avicii.

The news of a sudden passing can leave us with a feeling of shock and denial as we think of the lost potential and legacy left behind.

Death stings and it’s a reality we need to face.

As we go about living in a new world without the presence of these people, we can be prompted to reevaluate our lives. Questions like:

Am I living a life of purpose?

Am I aiming for success or significance?

Am I ready to meet God?

John Piper helps to bring some perspective to our temporary lives:

“I don’t so much pray that my death will be without pain, but that it will be without doubt.”

If you believe in the finished work of Jesus, then death actually becomes the ultimate comfort. It welcomes those who believe in Jesus to live in the presence of their maker for all eternity; an eternity free from any form of pain and sorrow.

If you haven’t decided to give Jesus control of your life yet, He is inviting you right now to come into a relationship with Him. It is a promise of eternal life and freedom from sin and shame. All that is required is to accept the free gift of salvation.
